South Africa’s health department reported four further laboratory-confirmed Mpox cases, bringing the total in its update to 26, Bizcommunity Healthcare reported on 19 October.
The cases span five provinces: 18 in the Western Cape, three in Gauteng, two each in the Eastern Cape and Free State, and one in KwaZulu-Natal. The Western Cape figures include two imported cases and 16 associated with local transmission.
The department said it would continue working with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, provincial authorities and other partners on surveillance, case finding, contact tracing and public communication. It also reminded healthcare workers about infection-prevention protocols when managing suspected cases.
Commercial perspective
The update connects public-health surveillance with laboratory and clinical services across several provinces. Case finding and contact tracing depend on coordination between national bodies, provincial authorities and healthcare facilities.
